Thank you for your interest in the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot Program (RNIP) in Sudbury, Ontario. The Sudbury RNIP program is delivered by the City of Greater Sudbury’s Economic Development division and funded by FedNor, the Greater Sudbury Development Corporation, and the City of Greater Sudbury. The RNIP is a unique permanent residence pathway for international workers, aimed toward filling important labour shortages in Sudbury and surrounding communities. The RNIP is designed for workers who have an intention to reside in the community over the long term, and if approved, are granted the ability to apply for permanent residency as well as an LMIA-exempt work permit.
As per the recent announcement by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, The RNIP application deadline has been extended to February 2024, along with other changes to the program which will be implemented over Fall 2022. Please see here for more details.
Greater Sudbury is centrally located in Northeastern Ontario and is home to approximately 165,000 people. It is a multicultural and truly bilingual community. Sudbury is home to the third largest French population outside of Quebec and approximately 38 per cent of people identify as knowing both official languages.
Sudbury is a world class mining centre. The city’s mining companies employ approximately 6,000 people and support a 300-company mining supply and service sector cluster that employs a further 14,000 people. The city is also a regional centre in financial and business services, tourism, health care and research, education and government for Northeastern Ontario.
Sudbury is a regional hub for many Ontario residents who live in nearby communities. These visitors come to the city to visit with family and friends, for cultural and educational experiences, for entertainment, for shopping and for conducting business.
