City of Greater Sudbury Celebrates Sandvik’s $85.1 Million Investment in New Manufacturing Facility
The City of Greater Sudbury and Council are proud to take part in today’s announcement from Sandvik confirming an $85.1 million investment in a new, state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in our community.
This significant investment is a strong vote of confidence in Greater Sudbury. It reflects what we have long known to be true: our city has the land, talent, and resources global companies need to grow and compete. It further strengthens Greater Sudbury’s position as a world-class mining hub and a leader in advanced manufacturing.
“This investment by Sandvik is a testament to the City’s commitment to supporting business growth and development. It will support the creation of additional and sustainable high-paying jobs, as well as innovation that secures our place as a global mining hub. The City worked closely with Sandvik and its partners throughout this process to bring this project to fruition. Every new facility and every new job strengthen our economy, and we will continue to champion the kind of growth that builds long-term prosperity for our community,” said Mayor Paul Lefebvre.
The project will create more than 60 new jobs in Greater Sudbury and help retain over 400 jobs across Ontario. The new facility will consolidate Sandvik’s two existing Sudbury operations into one modern site, increasing manufacturing capacity and supporting the growing demand for battery-electric mining equipment.
Sandvik has been part of the Sudbury community for decades, providing innovative solutions to the mining industry. Discussions about this investment began more than two years ago and included zoning changes and scope adjustments to ensure the right conditions were in place. Site preparation is already underway, with construction expected to begin in spring 2026.
The new facility will be a world-class manufacturing hub designed to meet the rising global demand for sustainable mining equipment and technology. Businesses previously located on the site have successfully relocated to locations that better suit their needs, paving the way for this transformative project.
This investment demonstrates that Greater Sudbury remains a top destination for companies looking to innovate, grow, and invest. Global leaders continue to choose our community because of our proximity to the mining industry, our skilled and adaptable workforce, and our commitment to supporting forward-looking development.
