Arts & Culture

Arts & Culture

Greater Sudbury is a northern cultural capital celebrated from coast to coast for its artistic excellence, vibrancy and creativity. A diverse cultural sector breathes life into our entire community through a range of programs and events which showcase the immense talent of local artists who draw inspiration from the land and the rich multicultural heritage of the region. Our city is home to a growing base of arts and culture businesses and employment, in a diverse range of arts and culture industry sub-sectors.

We are proud to be the main filming location for Crave TV’s hit, Letterkenny and our local brewery, Stack Brewing even produces the show’s popular Puppers beer. Our production highlights also include Bad Blood, The Captive, The Intruders, John Cardinal Series, Hard Rock Medical and much more!

Greater Sudbury Cultural Plan

The Greater Sudbury Cultural Plan (version française) and Cultural Action Plan (version française) have clearly articulated four interconnected strategic directions: Creative Identity, Creative People, Creative Places and Creative Economy. Our community is multicultural and has a unique historical relation with its geographical landscape. Cultural resources help define the identities of individual communities as well as the shared identity of Greater Sudbury as a whole. We are a community of communities; our creative individuals are at the heart of the creative economy, and they also help the sector to foster social development, as nearly everyone participates in creative pursuits in some aspect of their lives.

Our Creative Culture

We pride ourselves on our unique cultural and music festivals and events throughout our City and over every season. We invite you to discover Sudbury.

Greater Sudbury Council supports the growth and development of local arts and culture through the provision of annual grants. Applications will be assessed on the basis of artistic/cultural merit, organizational/financial health and impact to the community, aligned with the four goal areas of the Greater Sudbury Cultural Plan (version française): Creative People, Identity, Places and Economy. An independent jury reviews applications to make funding recommendations to the Greater Sudbury Development Corporation Board of Directors
