About the Conference

The 2024 OECD Conference of Mining Regions and Cities will take place on October 8th -11th, 2024 in Greater Sudbury, Canada.

This year’s conference will gather stakeholders from across the public and private sectors, academia, civil society organizations, and Indigenous representatives to discuss well-being in mining regions, focusing on two pillars:

  1. Partnering for sustained development in mining regions
  2. Future-proofing regional mineral supply for the energy transition

There will also be a special focus on Indigenous peoples in mining regions, featuring an Indigenous-led preconference discussion and a main session on Indigenous-centred pathways for sustainable futures.

In today’s uncertain geopolitical climate and rising demand for critical minerals, mining regions face significant pressures to contribute to global mineral supplies while ensuring economic, social, and environmental well-being for local communities. This conference will bring together around 300 stakeholders across the public and private sectors, civil society and Indigenous organisations to identify actions to build a shared vision and strong partnerships to support these dual goals.

The 2024 OECD Conference of Mining Regions and Cities is hosted by the City of Greater Sudbury and co-organized with the Organization for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OECD).
