Sudbury at MINExpo

A A A

Hello, Bonjour, Aani.

I’m Mayor Brian Bigger and I’m so proud to represent the global mining hub of Sudbury, Ontario, Canada.

Resilient. Innovative. Growing. These are all words that describe our local mining industry, despite a very tough economic year brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Our participation at MINExpo is a bit different this year due to travel restrictions, but we are represented by 44 Sudbury mining supply and service companies who are here to do business.

Stop by our booth at Ontario’s North to meet Marla Tremblay and all our Northern Ontario suppliers.

Sudbury is the nickel mining capital of the world. Our nine operating mines, mills, smelter, refinery, and over 300 mining supply and service companies are open and continue to evolve to meet the needs of industry.

We are seeing major investments from mining giants like Vale and Glencore. IAMGOLD has begun construction of its Côté Gold Project just two hours north of our great city. It is expected to generate $10 billion in economic activity.

Adoption of green technologies to combat climate change has placed our mining supply and service sector at the forefront of the development of zero emission underground equipment.

The Sudbury Basin contains the world’s second largest nickel deposit, and is one of only a few to produce Class 1 nickel for the manufacture of electric vehicle batteries.

This advantage, coupled with a skilled workforce and proximity to Ontario’s automotive cluster, make Sudbury the ideal location for a future electric vehicle battery production facility.

And the opportunities don’t stop there. We like to say that Sudbury is a place where a ten-minute drive in any direction will connect you face-to-face with an international expert on mining-related opportunities and technologies.

Our supply and service sector offers solutions for every aspect of mining, from start-up to remediation.

Expertise, responsiveness and partnerships are what make Sudbury the best place to do business.

Our partners at ONEDC can put you in touch with local industry experts to find what you need to grow.

Speak to our many businesses who have the tools and resources you need for your businesses. Or move your business here. We have it all, in the world’s most family friendly and developed mining camp.
